Why its not indecision that is holding you back but fear

How many times have you been confronted with a choice and not capable to make a decision? Torn between doing well and scared of making a mistake?

Well, I have a solution for you.

It’s not indecision that stops you but fear. You are scared of failure, being judged, to become a bag lady, everyone telling you that you will never succeed. Whatever!

Why it’s not indecision that is holding you back but fear

When you realise that the voices are not yours, they will stop. You’re winning not just yet. You then have to stop the voices in your ego, when you think about all this stuff going on in your heads, you wonder how we ever manage anything?? I know we were geared to fight for our life walking out of a cave, it seems our brain hasn’t evolved that much and we still have this fight or flight reflex when confronted to change. I’m glad we still have it, but it’s probably too much in most of the situations.

So next time you’re walking around like a headless chicken bitting your fingernails because someone offered you a fantastic opportunity, i.e. a promotion at work, a trip to India, being a speaker at an event, becoming a mentor. Before you say No, pause and breathe.

Make a list of pros and cons. Listen to your heart, your gut, don’t ask around, this is your decision entirely and someone else might make a completely different decision. Change is scary, don’t ponder over your choice for too long, thing 5, 10, 20 years ahead will you have regrets saying no, how does it feel?

Does saying, YES or NO feel right? Feeling right doesn’t always mean right decision. When I stopped working to look after my children, I knew it was not the right decision for me, but it felt a 100% right, the time spent with my children was worth more than climbing the career ladder. It’s all done to values, family is at the top of my priority list. What are yours?

When you make this decision look at your priority list. I believe that there’s never a right or wrong decision it has to be right for you, aligned to your values, if you’re scared that’s ok, don’t let fear overtake the joy, don’t think about it too long. As Susan Jeffers said “feel the fear and do it anyway!”
